McGuinty Liberals let down families, reward insiders

If the Liberal government’s performance during this legislative session were a Bollywood blockbuster, it would surely be called “The Big Letdown,” NDP Leader Andrea Horwath said today.

“This legislative session has made it crystal clear that Ontario families have been ignored by a government that has grown increasingly arrogant and out of touch,” Horwath said.

“This government has picked winners and losers. And Ontario families who make this province work are the losers in Dalton McGuinty’s Ontario.”

The New Democrat Leader noted the last few months have told the real story about whose side the Liberals are on:

Ontario families want their government to protect health care. Instead they saw health dollars wasted in a billion-dollar health scandal that saw millions flow into the pockets of well-connected consultants while local emergency rooms closed.

Ontario families need a hand in tough economic times. Instead they were hit with an unfair tax on everything from gas for the car to dinner out while profitable corporations are getting yet another tax break.

Ontario families expect their government to listen to the people who elected them. Instead, the McGuinty government arrogantly refused to hold hearings on new taxes that would hit every Ontario family.

“Dalton McGuinty has made it clear that wealthy friends of the government can expect to do just fine in this province,” Horwath said.

“For the rest of us, it’s pay more and get less. The people of Ontario deserve much better.”
